Business Plan Template for Your DAFT Visa Application
The business plan stressed us out more than any other DAFT document.
How detailed does it need to be? Financial projections? Market analysis?
Turns out, it's simpler than you think.
How Detailed?
Not very.
They want to see you have a real business idea, you'll actually work, it's feasible, and you can support yourself.
They don't need a 50-page business plan, detailed financial projections, or fancy formatting.
Length: 2-5 pages is perfect.
What to Include
-
Business Description: What your business does, who you serve, your expertise.
-
Your Background: Relevant experience, skills, past work.
-
Services/Products: What you'll offer, general pricing.
-
Target Market: Who will pay you—client types, industries, location.
-
Marketing Plan: How you'll get clients—existing clients, referrals, website, networking.
-
Financial Projections: Simple monthly estimates. Expected income, basic expenses.
-
Why Netherlands: Brief explanation of why Amsterdam/Netherlands benefits your business.
What They're Looking For
They want to see: Real business (not fake), you can support yourself, you'll actually work, it's feasible.
They don't care about: Perfect projections, fancy formatting, detailed market research, business school language.
Tips
- Be honest: Don't exaggerate or make up numbers
- Be realistic: They know you're starting out
- Show existing work: Mention current clients if you have them
- Keep it simple: 2-5 pages is enough
- Proofread: Check for errors
Common Mistakes
Too vague: "I'll do consulting" isn't enough. Be specific.
Too ambitious: Don't claim you'll make €100,000 in year one.
Too short: One paragraph isn't enough.
Too long: 20 pages is overkill.

FAQ
How detailed should financial projections be? Simple monthly estimates are fine. They want to see you can support yourself, not perfect forecasts.
What if I don't have existing clients? Explain how you'll get them—previous work experience, portfolio, marketing plan.
Can I change my business later? Yes. The business plan is for the application, not a binding contract.
